Branding DayTech
Introducing your one-stop tech companion.
It started right after a small party called Gen Z Founders Night organized by NonPublic, together with Orvel Ventures and Ascend Angels.
“Hey Alvis, Dayrius here. Thanks for coming down for our little party! Am curious to hear about what you’re doing at Designlabb and see how we can work together.”
Dayrius runs DayTech since 2018. It connects consumers with reputable manufacturers, providing an extensive selection of electronics, gaming hardware, and corporate gifts. He wanted me to work with him to bring more life to his brand, redesign DayTech’s existing website, and improve his business processes.
For context, DL currently only works with SaaS and consulting brands around the world. So working with an e-commerce startup is something new. I think this is a calling to work with e-commerce brands…ANYWAYS, let’s dive deeper into DayTech’s brand.
DT for DayTech
The old logo was just not it. It’s complex, mixed with all sorts of colors, doesn’t have the flexibility to scale down to fit smaller screen sizes, and MOST importantly, lacks life and personality. Let’s change that.
For the wordmark, we chose to use Figtree Black as it gives the brand a professional and modern feel that is appropriate for both retail tech and government corporate gifting. Sort of like Poppins but with more personality. The “T” was designed to imply forward motion progress as it points towards the right. It is also seen as an anchor within the logo, giving it balance and grounding the design, which suggests DayTech’s established presence.
Outfit Fits the Vibe
DayTech is not just an e-commerce business, but it’s also a tech brand. When it comes to typography, the first thought that came to my mind was, “what tech fonts are there?” I even asked ChatGPT about this. But it wasn’t very helpful. So the creative me went to Instagram, Pinterest, all the platforms you can think of to find that font…
We ended up with Outfit — a geometric sans-serif which is a perfect fit for the brand. Outfit Medium will be used as the primary font, which is the default typeface, and Outfit Regular will be primarily used for body copy. Bebas Neue will be used for more subtle elements (e.g., the banner’s header).
Kept to Its Origin
At the very beginning, Dayrius expressed that he wanted to stick with the same color palette he had used before. While I understood his desire to maintain consistency, my creative brain immediately saw this as a challenge. With a restricted set of options, I knew I had to think outside the box to make these familiar colors feel fresh and innovative. So I started experimenting with different shades, contrasts, and combinations — so that the final result could be both cohesive and exciting, while still honoring his original vision.
The brand is anchored in the primary colors — Royal Blue and Cyan, which are associated with trust and reliability. The blues give the brand a fresh and modern feel, while the black and white convey quality, clarity, and focus. As Marty Neumeier mentioned in his book The Brand Gap: Focus, Focus, Focus. These are the three most important words in branding. This is what we want to convey in DayTech’s brand.
Brand Elements and Mockups
We need to ensure that the elements we’ve designed and selected fit into the real-world context. So here are some mockups we’ve made. Starting with business cards.
DayTech also operates on Shopee and Lazada, so we designed a banner specifically for Dayrius to feature on his listing pages. The banner was crafted to grab attention by making the “T” a standout visual element. We clipped an image of a person wearing a futuristic tech headset — giving a glimpse of the future with DayTech. This naturally draws the viewer’s eye to the right, where the tagline “Your Tech Companion” is clearly displayed. Below the tagline, we included a reassuring message: “Enjoy fuss-free procurement of our 100% authentic hardware,” emphasizing DayTech’s commitment to quality and reliability.
We also designed DayTech’s website. Website design is OUR THINGGG. So we make sure to go all out on this. The “wow” factor we incorporated into the website is the animated globe. This animated globe was used to convey the story of DayTech’s globally sourced products. It symbolized the expansive reach and commitment to quality, allowing visitors to feel connected to the brand’s mission when they first arrive at the page.
GenAI Chatbot to answer your queries
Although we’re a brand design agency, we also do some low-code development. Things like chatbots, agentic workflows, and systems integration. For DayTech, it was a necessity to incorporate a GenAI chatbot into the website.
The chatbot serves as an efficient tool, providing instant answers to inquiries without requiring a human response. This not only improves user experience but also aligns seamlessly with the sales funnel, converting casual visitors into paying customers. You can interact with the chatbot on the DayTech website to see it in action. We’ve also implemented similar systems for clients like China Skinny, a research, strategy, and branding agency that helps Western companies enter the Chinese market.
Anyway, this is a minor part of the whole brand design so I’ll not go deep into it. If you’re interested in implementing one on your website, check out our friends over at Chatsimple.
Seeing what we’ve designed come to fruition
Watching our ideas and designs transform from initial concepts to tangible, fully realized products was incredibly rewarding. It was a proud moment I MUST say. There’s something uniquely fulfilling about knowing that the vision we brought to life will leave a lasting impression on others.
“Alvis is a systematic designer with an innate Midas Touch in his craft. He takes great pride in his work and consistently goes above and beyond to exceed client expectations. Communication with Alvis was always clear, professional, and efficient. I strongly recommend Alvis to anyone needing a brand refresh or website.”
